Portsea Islanders hit the beaches to get a view of the first UK solar eclipse since 1999.

The spectacular celestial event took place just before sunset, eclipse watchers armed with eclipse glasses, cameras and kitchen steamers and colanders headed down to the beaches, common and Gunwharf to soak up the atmosphere and experience.
